Hipertensión: Amlodipino está indicado como tratamiento de primera elección de la hipertensión arterial y puede usarse como único agente para el control de la presión arterial en la mayoría de los pacientes. Aquellos pacientes que no estén adecuadamente controlados con un solo antihipertensivo (otro diferente a amlodipino) pueden beneficiarse al agregar amlodipino, el cual se ha utilizado en combinación con diuréticos (tiazidas), bloqueadores alfa, agentes bloqueadores de los receptores adrenérgicos beta, o inhibidores de la enzima convertidora de angiotensina (IECA).
Amlodipino también se indica para reducir el riesgo de enfermedad coronaria (EC) mortal infarto al miocardio (IM) no mortal, y para reducir el riesgo de Enfermedad Vascular Cerebral.
Enfermedad Arterial Coronaria: Amlodipino está indicado para reducir el riesgo de revascularización coronaria y la necesidad de hospitalización debido a angina en pacientes con enfermedad arterial coronaria (EAC).
Angina Estable Crónica: Amlodipino está indicado para el tratamiento de primera elección en la isquemia del miocardio, por obstrucción fija (angina estable) y/o vasoespasmo/vasoconstricción (angina variante de Prinzmetal) de los vasos coronarios. Amlodipino puede utilizarse en aquellos casos en que el cuadro clínico inicial sugiera un posible componente de vaso espasmo/vasoconstricción, aunque esto esté confirmado. Amlodipino puede utilizarse solo, como monoterapia, o en combinación con otro medicamento anti anginoso en pacientes con angina refractaria a los nitratos y/o a dosis adecuadas de beta-bloqueadores.
